By train

The Carnegie and Guildhall complex is a 0.6 mile walk from Thetford train station which takes approximately 14 minutes to walk. Thetford station (Station Road, IP24 1AH) sits on the Breckland Line. It is served by:

Greater Anglia: the main operator running around two trains an hour towards Norwich, and about one an hour towards Cambridge (with connections at Ely for Stansted Airport and London)
East Midlands Railway: a longer-distance service between Norwich and Liverpool Lime Street, via Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester.

T1, T2, and T3: The Thetford Rangers town circulars run up to every 20 minutes from Monday to Saturday, and hourly on Sundays.

The Carnegie and Guildhall Complex is an accessible venue for wheelchair users, with step free access throughout. Inner doors can be opened for you by staff when required.

Assistance Dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome in all parts of our venue. If you book online it would helpful to know in advance if you are bringing a dog; please drop us a quick email or call.

Seat Dimensions

In general seating, chairs have padded seat pads and padded seat backs. There are no arm rests. Seats are roughly 40cm wide. Leg room is flexible as the seats are not fixed.

In the rakes, seats have padded seat pads, padded seat backs and padded arm rests. Seats are 44cm wide and there is a 10cm space between each seat. These seats are accessed via a stepped platform so unsuitable for wheelchair users.

Toilet Facilities

The Carnegie has a DDA-compliant toilet and baby changing facilities alongside standard men's and women's cubicles.

The Guildhall has a DDA-compliant toilet and baby changing facilities alongside standard men's and women's cubicles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my own food and drink?

We politely request that customers do not bring food or drink purchased outside the premises into our auditoriums, unless medically necessary.

Is there a cloakroom?

Our coat rack is not manned, and we therefore say your belongings are left in the coat rack at your own risk. The Carnegie and Guildhall Complex cannot be held responsible for any missing items during your visit.

Can I take photographs or videos during a performance?

Taking photos and videos at events is down to hirer's discretion. As a Council owned venue all press enquiries are to be sent through our communications team at: mail@thetfordtowncouncil.gov.uk. Photos of performances can be found on the website's event page.

What time will the show end?

Performance end times vary depending on the show, wherever possible we will always aim to provide a rough show-length on the event page to give you a guide. Please feel free to ask any member of the Front of House team on the day and and they can advise.

Do you accept cash at the bar?

We usually accept both cash and card payments at our bars. However, on some occasions we may operate as a cashless venue, so we cannot guarantee that cash will always be accepted. We recommend bringing a payment card where possible.

Cabaret style seating is an event layout where chairs are placed around a portion (usually half to three-quarters) of round tables, with the open side facing the stage or front of the room. This means no guests sit with their backs turned to the stage.

Theatre-style seating means chairs are set up in straight or curved rows facing forward toward the stage. This layout does not use desks or tables and maximizes room capacity. The seats are not fixed, so chairs can be easily moved to accommodate wheelchairs.

with Raked Seating

Theatre-style seating with a rake is an arrangement where there are 'theatre rows' on the level floor which face the stage and at the rear of the room, there is a rake seating feature which elevates seats. For this, the floor steps upward from front to back, so that people in the rear can see over the heads of those in front of them.

Unreserved Seating

Some of our events have 'unreserved seating'. For these events, guests can access seats on a first come first serve basis. For unreserved seating, if you need to be located in a particular place for access reasons, please email us and we will do our best to make reasonable adjustments.

Some of our events are 'standing'. This is when the auditorium is clear of chairs and tables to allow dancing. We understand that some people coming to a standing gig would like to be able to sit down or may be wheelchair users. If this is the case, please let us know in advance and we will set up an area to provide a reasonable view of the stage. Please note that we will try our best to stop others blocking the view, but, like any standing gig, we cannot guarantee a perfect view for anybody.
